Get creative with a native
Spun from the fleeces of our flock and a handful of others in the UK
Mouth-watering shades of Castlemilk Moorit blended yarn.
Castlemilk Moorit fleece from our Glenluffin flock and other known pedigree flocks is blended with other native breeds for two reasons.
First - makes it go further
This fleece is very scarce. To enable us to generate enough yarn to sell we need to blend in other complementary wool fibre. We use either Shetland fibre or Bluefaced Leicester. Both are UK native breeds and the blends form a soft, strong yarn. 100% pure, natural and sustainable.
Second - provides a range of colours
By lightening the naturally dark mocha shade of pure Castlemilk rovings with the undyed cream of the other two breeds we create a paler ‘cappuccino’ shade that we supply undyed.
We also dye it in a limited palette of earthy yet vibrant shades - chosen to reflect the countryside around our coastal Scottish farm. By giving the yarn wider ‘kerb’ appeal, it supports further demand for the breed.
